Description
The MikroTik QRT 5 (RB911G-5HPnD-QRT) is a high-power outdoor wireless device designed for wireless internet service providers (WISPs), network installers and businesses that need reliable directional 5GHz connectivity. It combines a RouterBOARD wireless system with an integrated 24dBi flat-panel antenna in a rugged outdoor enclosure, making it suitable for point-to-point wireless links and other compatible outdoor network deployments.
For network operators in Kenya and across Africa, the QRT 5 provides an integrated wireless solution that can reduce the need to assemble a separate radio, antenna and enclosure. It runs MikroTik RouterOS and supports configurable wireless and routing functions for a range of network designs.
INTEGRATED 24dBi DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA
The QRT 5 includes an integrated 24dBi directional antenna designed to focus wireless signals in a specific direction. This makes it suitable for planned wireless links between compatible sites where line of sight, antenna alignment and a clear radio path are important.
Directional antennas can help concentrate signal energy toward the intended connection rather than distributing it broadly in every direction. Actual link performance depends on distance, obstacles, interference, antenna alignment, regulatory limits and the capabilities of the equipment at both ends.
5GHz DUAL-CHAIN WIRELESS
The device supports 5GHz 802.11a/n wireless with two wireless chains and a maximum theoretical wireless data rate of up to 300Mbps. This is the original QRT 5 model, not the QRT 5 ac version. Buyers requiring 802.11ac should check the separate RB911G-5HPacD-QRT model.
The QRT 5 can be considered for point-to-point links, wireless distribution and compatible access-point or customer-premises deployments. Choose the operating mode according to your network design and the capabilities of the other wireless device.
GIGABIT ETHERNET CONNECTIVITY
One Gigabit Ethernet port connects the QRT 5 to a router, switch or other network equipment. Gigabit Ethernet supports a nominal link speed of up to 1Gbps, although actual end-to-end throughput depends on wireless conditions, configuration and network traffic.
The wired interface provides a straightforward connection for installations where the radio is mounted outdoors and the rest of the network equipment is located indoors or in a protected cabinet.
MIKROTIK ROUTEROS MANAGEMENT
The QRT 5 runs MikroTik RouterOS with a Level 4 licence. RouterOS provides configuration options for wireless networking, IP addressing, routing, bridging, firewall rules and network management, subject to the device’s hardware and software capabilities.
Network administrators can configure the unit for supported wireless roles and integrate it into a broader MikroTik network. Before installation, plan the wireless mode, frequency, channel width, security settings, IP configuration and management access.
OUTDOOR ENCLOSURE AND MOUNTING
The integrated outdoor enclosure has an IP54 protection rating and is designed for outdoor wireless installations. The device measures approximately 309 × 320 × 50mm and has a specified operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.
The package includes mounting accessories for pole installation, a 24V 0.8A power adapter and a Gigabit PoE injector. Install the unit securely and follow the manufacturer’s mounting and cabling guidance. IP54 protection does not mean the enclosure is waterproof under every condition, so correct installation and cable protection remain important.
POWER AND INSTALLATION
The QRT 5 supports passive PoE input over its Ethernet port, with a supported input voltage range of 8–28V DC. Maximum power consumption is approximately 12W. It does not use standard IEEE 802.3af/at PoE input, so check the power source and injector carefully before connecting it.
For best results, use suitable outdoor Ethernet cabling, secure mounting hardware and appropriate surge protection where required. Professional installation should account for grounding, lightning exposure, local radio regulations and safe access to elevated mounting locations.
APPLICATIONS
The MikroTik QRT 5 may be used for:
- Point-to-point wireless links between compatible sites.
- Outdoor WISP infrastructure.
- Directional 5GHz wireless connectivity.
- Connecting remote buildings where a suitable line-of-sight radio path exists.
- Wireless links for offices, farms, warehouses and remote facilities.
- Network deployments using compatible MikroTik RouterOS equipment.
Wireless links should be planned with attention to Fresnel-zone clearance, interference, distance, permitted frequencies and transmit-power limits. The correct frequency range depends on the device variant and the regulations in the country of operation.
