MikroTik Chateau 5G R17 ax Wi-Fi 6 Router

Description

The MikroTik Chateau 5G R17 ax is a high-performance 5G home and business router designed for fast mobile internet, modern Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and advanced network management. Available from Globikom in Kenya, this router combines a Release 17 5G modem, dual-band wireless networking and multi-gigabit Ethernet in one compact desktop device.

It is suitable for homes, offices, remote-working environments, small businesses and locations that need an alternative to fixed-line broadband. With a compatible SIM or eSIM service and adequate mobile network coverage, the Chateau 5G R17 ax can provide internet connectivity without requiring a traditional fibre or DSL connection.

5G Release 17 Mobile Connectivity

The Chateau 5G R17 ax features a modern 5G modem designed to take advantage of supported 5G networks and advanced carrier aggregation. It also supports 4G LTE and compatible 3G networks, making it a flexible connectivity option where network availability varies.

Its 4×4 MIMO downlink capability helps the device make effective use of compatible mobile networks. Actual download speeds and signal performance depend on the mobile operator, supported frequency bands, network congestion, signal strength and service plan.

The router supports both a physical Micro SIM and eSIM functionality. This provides additional flexibility when selecting a compatible mobile operator or managing connectivity. Before purchasing, check that your preferred operator and service support the device’s cellular bands and eSIM requirements.

Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 for Home and Office

Built-in Wi-Fi 6 supports wireless connections on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The 2.4 GHz band is useful for compatible devices that need coverage, while 5 GHz can provide higher wireless throughput for suitable devices and applications.

The advertised maximum theoretical wireless data rates are up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1,200 Mbps on 5 GHz, giving a combined theoretical rate of approximately 1,774 Mbps. These figures are not guaranteed internet speeds; actual performance depends on client devices, interference, distance and network conditions.

This makes the router suitable for everyday business applications, video meetings, streaming, browsing and connecting multiple wireless devices. Its integrated antennas keep installation straightforward without requiring a separate wireless access point for many typical home and small-office deployments.

Gigabit and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet

The MikroTik Chateau 5G R17 ax includes four Gigabit Ethernet ports and one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. Wired connectivity allows users to connect desktop computers, switches, access points, network storage and other Ethernet-enabled equipment.

The 2.5G port provides additional capacity for compatible multi-gigabit devices, while the four Gigabit ports support common wired network requirements. This combination makes the router useful for mixed wired and wireless environments.

RouterOS v7 for Advanced Network Control

The Chateau 5G R17 ax runs MikroTik RouterOS v7 with a Level 4 licence. RouterOS offers features for managing traffic, configuring firewall rules, establishing VPN connections, creating VLANs and monitoring network activity.

Network administrators can tailor configurations to their requirements, while users who prefer a simpler setup can use MikroTik’s supported management tools. Advanced features make the device useful beyond basic consumer routing, particularly for small businesses and technically capable home users.

Hardware and Installation

The router is powered by a quad-core ARM 64-bit processor operating at up to 1.8 GHz, with 1 GB of RAM and 128 MB of NAND storage. Its passive cooling design avoids the need for a cooling fan. The unit supports a 12–28 V DC input and has a maximum power consumption of approximately 27 W.

For best results, position the router where it can receive a strong mobile signal and provide suitable Wi-Fi coverage. Check cellular band compatibility, SIM or eSIM activation requirements and operator coverage before deployment.
