MikroTik hAP ac³ (RBD53iG-5HacD2HnD) – Dual-Band Wi-Fi 5 Gigabit Router

Description

The MikroTik hAP ac³ (RBD53iG-5HacD2HnD) is a dual-band wireless router designed for homes, small businesses, offices and professional networking installations. It combines Wi-Fi 5, five Gigabit Ethernet ports, external antennas and MikroTik RouterOS in a compact device that can be mounted horizontally, vertically or on a wall.

Available from Globikom in Kenya, the hAP ac³ provides wired and wireless connectivity for everyday internet access, local network communication and flexible network management. It is suitable for users who need more control over their network than a basic consumer router typically offers.

Dual-Band Wi-Fi 5 Connectivity

The hAP ac³ supports wireless networking on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands using 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n/ac standards.

The 2.4GHz radio supports theoretical data rates of up to 300Mbps, while the 5GHz radio supports up to 867Mbps. These are maximum wireless link rates, not guaranteed internet speeds. Actual performance depends on interference, signal strength, client devices, distance and network configuration.

The 2.4GHz band is useful for compatible devices and coverage in many home and office environments. The 5GHz band can offer higher wireless link rates and may experience less interference in some locations, although its coverage can be more affected by walls and other obstructions.

External Antennas for Wireless Coverage

The router features external wireless antennas designed to support coverage throughout a home or small office. The manufacturer specifies antenna gains of 3 dBi for 2.4GHz and 5.5 dBi for 5GHz.

The enclosure includes RP-SMA female antenna connectors, allowing compatible external antenna arrangements where appropriate. Any antenna changes should follow manufacturer guidance and applicable radio regulations.

Placement still matters: position the router centrally where practical, away from major obstructions and sources of interference, to improve wireless performance.

Five Gigabit Ethernet Ports

The MikroTik hAP ac³ includes five 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet ports for wired devices such as desktop computers, network switches, printers, smart TVs and other compatible equipment.

Gigabit Ethernet supports fast local network connections and provides a convenient option for devices that benefit from a stable wired connection. The ports can be configured through RouterOS for different network roles, depending on your requirements.

For larger installations, the hAP ac³ can connect to an additional Ethernet switch or a separate access point to expand network capacity.

RouterOS and Network Management

The hAP ac³ runs MikroTik RouterOS with a Level 4 licence. Its quad-core IPQ-4019 processor, 256MB RAM and 128MB NAND storage provide the hardware platform for routing and network-management functions.

Depending on configuration, RouterOS supports features such as:

• IP routing and network address translation (NAT)
• Firewall rules and access controls
• DHCP server and client configuration
• VLANs and network segmentation
• VPN configuration
• Bandwidth management and traffic prioritisation
• Network monitoring and troubleshooting

These capabilities make the hAP ac³ useful for small offices, technically advanced home users and network administrators who need flexible configuration options. Actual routing performance depends on the workload, enabled features and traffic patterns.

PoE Support and Flexible Installation

The router supports DC jack input from 12–28V and passive PoE input from 18–28V. Ethernet port 5 provides passive PoE output for compatible devices, with a maximum output current of 500mA.

PoE output can simplify installation by powering a supported device through its Ethernet cable. Check voltage, polarity and power requirements carefully before connecting equipment. Passive PoE is not interchangeable with every active-PoE standard.

The router also includes a USB Type-A port for supported functions and a mounting arrangement that allows flexible placement. Its passive cooling design avoids the need for a cooling fan.

Ideal Applications

The MikroTik hAP ac³ is suitable for:

• Home and apartment internet connectivity
• Small-business and office networks
• Wired and wireless branch-office networking
• Network configurations requiring VLANs or VPNs
• Connecting wired devices and wireless clients
• Small installations requiring flexible RouterOS management

Please note that this model does not include a built-in LTE modem. Internet access normally requires an Ethernet WAN connection or another compatible upstream connection.
