MikroTik BaseBox 5 (RB912UAG-5HPnD-OUT) – Outdoor 5GHz Wireless Router

Description

The MikroTik BaseBox 5 (RB912UAG-5HPnD-OUT) is a rugged outdoor wireless router designed for wireless internet service providers (WISPs), outdoor access points, and point-to-point or point-to-multipoint wireless links. Its weather-resistant enclosure, dual-chain 5GHz wireless radio and external antenna connectors make it suitable for outdoor wireless network deployments across Kenya and Africa.

The BaseBox 5 is supplied without an integrated directional dish antenna, allowing network installers to select compatible external antennas according to the required coverage, link distance and deployment design. It features two RP-SMA female antenna connectors and supports external antenna configurations for different wireless networking applications.

Its built-in 5GHz 802.11a/n wireless radio supports a maximum theoretical wireless data rate of 300Mbps. Actual throughput depends on signal strength, interference, channel width, antenna selection, distance and network configuration. The dual-chain radio supports two spatial streams, making the device suitable for compatible outdoor wireless links and access-point deployments.

The device is powered by a single-core 600MHz AR9342 processor and includes 64MB RAM and 128MB NAND storage. It runs MikroTik RouterOS with a Level 4 licence, providing routing, bridging, firewall, bandwidth management and wireless access-point configuration features. These capabilities make it suitable for ISP installations, business connectivity and managed outdoor networks.

For wired connectivity, the BaseBox 5 includes one Gigabit Ethernet port for connecting to a network switch, router or compatible PoE injector. The Ethernet port accepts passive PoE input within the manufacturer’s specified voltage range of 8–30V DC. Maximum power consumption is 12W. The device also includes a USB Type-A port, a miniPCIe expansion slot and a mini-SIM slot. The mini-SIM slot does not mean an LTE modem is included; compatible additional hardware is required for cellular connectivity.

The outdoor enclosure is designed for demanding installations, with a manufacturer’s specified operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C. The standard package includes the outdoor unit, power adapter, Gigabit PoE injector and mounting accessories, subject to the supplied package configuration. Proper grounding, weatherproof cable installation and secure mounting are recommended for outdoor deployments.

The MikroTik BaseBox 5 is suitable for internet service providers extending wireless coverage, businesses connecting separate buildings, and network installers deploying external-antenna wireless systems. It can be used in point-to-point links between locations or in point-to-multipoint deployments when paired with compatible antennas and appropriately configured wireless equipment.

Before installation, confirm that the selected antenna, frequency range and transmission power comply with local regulations. Check antenna compatibility, line of sight, interference levels and the required wireless capacity to ensure the device suits your deployment.
