Description
The MikroTik PowerBox Pro is an outdoor Gigabit Ethernet router designed for network installations that need wired connectivity and Power over Ethernet (PoE) output for compatible devices. Its weather-resistant enclosure makes it suitable for selected outdoor deployments, including wireless internet service provider (WISP) networks, rooftop installations, tower sites and distributed networking environments.
With five Gigabit Ethernet ports, an SFP interface for fibre connectivity and MikroTik RouterOS, the PowerBox Pro provides flexible options for connecting network equipment and managing traffic. It can help reduce the number of separate power adapters required when supplying compatible devices through its PoE output ports.
Gigabit Ethernet Connectivity
The PowerBox Pro features five 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports for connecting routers, switches, access points and other compatible network equipment. Gigabit Ethernet supports network connections at up to 1Gbps per port under suitable conditions, making it useful for many small and medium-sized network installations.
Network administrators can use the Ethernet interfaces to connect upstream network equipment, distribute connectivity to local devices and build a compact wired network at an outdoor site.
SFP Fibre Connectivity
The SFP interface provides an option for connecting the router to compatible optical fibre infrastructure using a suitable SFP transceiver. This can be useful where a fibre uplink is preferred over a copper Ethernet connection, such as between a building and a network distribution point.
The appropriate SFP module depends on the required link speed, fibre type, wavelength, distance and compatibility with the equipment at the other end. Confirm the transceiver specifications before ordering.
PoE Output for Compatible Devices
The PowerBox Pro can supply power to compatible devices through Ethernet ports 2–5. This feature can simplify installations by allowing supported devices to receive both network connectivity and power through an Ethernet cable.
The device supports passive PoE and standard 802.3af/at PoE output under the specified input-power conditions. For 802.3af/at output, the manufacturer specifies a 48–57V input. Check the connected device’s power requirements, PoE mode, voltage and polarity before connecting it.
Power output is subject to per-port current limits and the total power available from the input supply. Do not assume every connected device can receive its maximum rated power simultaneously.
Outdoor Installation
The PowerBox Pro has an enclosure intended for outdoor mounting, making it suitable for selected pole, rooftop and tower installations. Its compact design can be useful for WISPs and network integrators deploying equipment where space and cable management matter.
For reliable operation, install the unit according to MikroTik’s mounting instructions, with the Ethernet ports facing down. Use suitable mounting hardware, cable protection and grounding arrangements for the site. Outdoor exposure, moisture, lightning and electrical surges should be considered when designing the installation.
MikroTik RouterOS Management
The PowerBox Pro runs MikroTik RouterOS, which provides network management and routing capabilities. Depending on the configuration and software version, administrators can configure IP addressing, routing, firewall rules, bandwidth management and network monitoring.
RouterOS offers flexibility for service providers and IT professionals who need control over traffic flow and network behaviour. Proper configuration is important, particularly when the device is deployed on a live ISP or business network.
Suitable Applications
The PowerBox Pro can be considered for WISP installations, outdoor wireless network deployments, fibre-fed distribution points, rooftop connectivity projects and other environments requiring a compact router with multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports.
Before deployment, check the number of connected devices, required throughput, PoE power budget, fibre requirements and environmental conditions. Select the power supply and accessories according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
